Baby carriers: compare fit, carrying limits and care

Quick answer

What should you know before choosing?

Start with a carrier that fits both your baby and the adult wearing it. Ergobaby Omni Classic (previously Omni 360) and BabyBjörn Harmony are two adjustable models worth trying. Their minimum size, carrying positions and upper limits differ. A newborn label does not mean every newborn fits: check the exact manual and get help with fitting when needed.

An adjustable carrier with front, hip and back carry options. Ergobaby lists a 3.2–20.4 kg range; newborn use also requires a minimum height of 50.8 cm and inward-facing front carry. Check the manual for every position.

Check before buying: Minimum height and weight both matter

Why it's a good thing: The documented adjustment range may suit a family wanting to keep one carrier as their child grows; it does not prove comfort for every wearer or a particular resale value.

  • Adjustable seat and several carrying positions
  • Manufacturer publishes fitting guidance
  • Machine washable
  • Minimum height and weight both matter
  • Position rules change as the child develops

BabyBjörn Harmony

BabyBjörn lists Harmony for 3.2–15 kg and 53–100 cm, with adjustable head and back support. It serves more than the newborn stage; use the carrying position appropriate to the child's development.

Check before buying: 15 kg upper limit

Why it's a good thing: A published size range and washable construction help assess continued use. We have not measured its comfort against another carrier.

  • Adjustable head support
  • Padded back support
  • Machine washable
  • 15 kg upper limit
  • Back carry is recommended from one year

Which carrier should you try first?

Choose by fit before choosing a brand. A carrier that feels comfortable for one parent may need different settings for another. Try the adjustment controls, check that you can use them confidently, and see whether a local sling library offers a fitting or loan before you buy.

These two models have accessible manufacturer information and different adjustment ranges. That makes them useful starting points for a comparison, rather than a claim that they are the only good carriers available.

What does the model name tell you?

Ergobaby’s fabric and range guide identifies Omni Classic as the former Omni 360. Do not assume that a product called simply “360”, “Omni Breeze” or “Embrace” has the same instructions. Use the model label on the carrier and the matching manual.

The Omni Classic product page explains its size limits and positions. The BabyBjörn Harmony page provides fitting videos and model-specific guidance. Follow those instructions even if a generic babywearing article gives a different approximate age.

What should you check on every outing?

The NHS babywearing guidance recommends the TICKS checks: a snug fit, a visible face, a head close enough to kiss, space between chin and chest, and a supported upright back. Keep the baby’s head uncovered by the carrier fabric and take them out to feed. Check buckles and straps before use.

A published minimum weight is only one part of the fit. If you cannot achieve the positioning in the manual, stop and get fitting help. For a premature baby or a baby with medical needs, ask the health professional looking after them before choosing a carrier.

Is a used carrier good value?

Our recommendation is to establish the exact model and obtain its instructions before considering a used purchase. Ask about its history, inspect the fabric, seams and fastenings, and check for recalls and manufacturer advice. An intact-looking photograph cannot establish condition. Avoid a listing whose seller cannot identify the model or explain missing parts.

We have removed unsupported promises about spare-buckle supply, resale prices and carriers routinely lasting through several siblings. Ask the manufacturer about a specific replacement part before making that part of your buying decision.

Why is this shortlist shorter?

Editorial correction, 7 October 2026: the earlier version incorrectly described Caboo DXgo as a newborn ring-style wrap. We removed that recommendation because we could not confirm a current manufacturer instruction set during this review. We also removed other entries whose model details and buying claims we had not substantiated in this refresh. Removal does not establish that a product is unsafe or discontinued.

This page now compares documented features and removes claims that Harmony is quickly outgrown or less comfortable on long walks. We did not run a wearer trial capable of supporting those claims.

Check the listing before buying

The Amazon buttons open searches, not a verified individual listing. Match the full model, fabric, included accessories and manual, and check the seller and returns terms. A similarly named item is not automatically the product discussed here.

How we choose

Manufacturer specifications and NHS babywearing guidance checked on 7 October 2026. This is a comparison of documented features, not a comfort trial, durability test or survey of resale prices. We have not independently verified current Amazon listings, seller authenticity, stock or spare-part availability. This is a research-based review, not a hands-on lab test.

Our values filter: Start with fit, the exact model instructions and your child’s stage. Consider care, condition and continued use; our comparisons do not certify product safety.

Common questions

Is Ergobaby Omni Classic the same range as Omni 360?
Ergobaby describes the Omni Classic as the former Omni 360. Check the exact model, fabric version and manual when buying; an Amazon search can also return other Ergobaby carriers.
Can every newborn use these carriers?
No. Each carrier has minimum size requirements and must fit the baby correctly. Follow the exact model's instructions and ask a qualified babywearing adviser or health professional for help if the fit or your baby's needs are uncertain.
Is BabyBjörn Harmony only for the newborn stage?
No. BabyBjörn lists Harmony for babies from 3.2 to 15 kg and 53 to 100 cm, up to approximately three years. Carrying positions have their own requirements; the maximum range is not permission to use every position from birth.
Have these carriers been tested by Small Good Things?
No. We checked published manufacturer information and NHS guidance. We have not tested comfort, long-term wear or resale value, and personal fitting should guide the final choice.
